Trout are a European introduced species that has flourished in Australian freshwater due to the work of James Youl, the man who is responsible for bringing trout to Australia in April 1964. Now Trout fishing has become the most popular target for anglers in Australia with many successful programs helping the trout stocks in our rivers stay at a sustainable level so we can continue to enjoy catching trout for time to come. The majority of Trout fishing is done by fly however there are many anglers that target trout using lures including soft plastics, spinnerbaits, surface lures and hard body lures.
