Big Silver Trevally Caught On Soft Plastic Lure In East Gippsland

Silver Trevally would have to be one of the hardest fighting fish the southern estuaries of Australia have to offer. It was Autumn and we were, once again, in east Gippsland at the so called Lake Tyres estuary system. The fishing had been good of late with many a mixed bag coming from our fishing sessions. We had decided to head out for a mid day fish and with the wind up around the 20 knot mark we upsized from the finesse jig heads we had been using to target Bream and gone for a more practical approach to suite the windy conditions. Along the cliff face we fished, from the waters edge the depth rapidly declined to 5 meters with rock, weed and predominately sand making up the underwater environment.
The lure technique i was using was nothing fancy, bumping we call it, letting the lure sink to the bottom of the water column and then, by giving the fishing rod a couple of erratic twitches, making the lure hop off the floor and then sink back down again. As i repetitively continued this process i was eventually answered with a 'knock' in my line, to which i enthusiastically answered with a 'strike'!
The rest is history, which just so happened to be captured on film.
